This morning, I witnessed love. Genuine. Overwhelming. Love in its truest form. Jesus love.
The following is a my paraphrase of today's message at church:
A community as Jesus intended is one in which the 'haves' are bound to the 'have nots' in love ... having been radically changed by their encounter with Jesus. This encounter of Jesus' love changes the way they view their stuff - their crap. It changes the way they view the world.
There are some people who - at this moment - have. They are leaping. Joyful. Thankful. Blessed. And there are people who - at the same time - have not. They are limping. Defeated. Deflated. But still, blessed.
Blessed because they have encountered that love. The truest love that can only come from the One who went through crap to defeat our crap for us.
Out of our knowledge of this love, our hearts are changed. Now we are called into a community where genuine love is shared between the leapers and the limpers. That is what it's all about.
Whether leaping or limping ... give thanks to Him.
It's no secret the economy is hurting. And it's safe to say we are all aware Michigan is among the hardest hit. Because of this, there are a lot of people hurting. They need love in a big way. So it's no surprise what happened after this message hit home for so many people. After this message was given, white buckets were placed around the 'stage' in my church. Our pastor then invited those who are currently leaping to throw money - cash - into these buckets.
Those who are limping were asked to approach the buckets ... and receive. They were invited to grab handfuls of money.
I can tell you this: Never have I witnessed something like this. What I experienced was an outpouring of emotion as the leapers and the limpers - overwhelmed by the love - bound themselves together. This is community and Jesus was encountered in those moments.
This is what it's about. It's all that matters.
And maybe what's most overwhelming is that this incredible display of Jesus' love is only a tiny glimpse.
Grace and love, like mighty rivers
Poured incessant from above
And Heaven's peace and perfect justice
Kissed a guilty world in love

This nearly brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful display of Jesus' love. The song "Here is love" is one of my all time favorites. Thank you for sharing this, it touched me deeply!
